How I Saved $84/Year on iCloud Storage Using Claude

Small win, but Claude Code + Claude Web just helped me reduce my monthly iCloud storage bill from $9.99 to $2.99.

That’s $84 in annual savings. Not bad for a conversation with an AI.

The Problem

Like most people, I had no idea what was actually eating up my iCloud storage. I was paying for 2TB but had a vague sense that I didn’t really need it. The iCloud interface doesn’t make it easy to drill down into what’s consuming space.

The Approach

I started with a simple natural language prompt:

“Categorize each folder in my iCloud folder by size and see what’s taking so much space.”

From there, Claude helped me navigate my local iCloud Drive folder, listing directories by size and surfacing the biggest offenders. No scripting knowledge required on my part—just a conversation.

What I Found

After digging through the results:

I moved the non-critical large files to my local Mac (which has 2TB of storage) and deleted the rest.

Result: iCloud storage dropped from ~400 GB to 150 GB. I downgraded my plan, and now I’m saving $7/month.

The Takeaway

This is the kind of mundane, practical task that AI is surprisingly good at. You don’t need to be building apps or writing code to get value from tools like Claude. Sometimes it’s just about having a smart assistant that can help you make sense of your own digital clutter.

If you’ve been putting off cleaning up your cloud storage, give it a try. You might be surprised what you find.
